About

Edgar Ruiz Jr.

Edgar Ruiz Jr. resides in New York and is a skilled comedian and storyteller. Currently, he works as a manager, story instructor, and slam host at The Moth.

In addition to completing his Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and Sociology at Lehman College CUNY, he had also begun a second degree in psychology, but thats another convoluted story for another time.

He worked in social services for over 20 years, helping marginalized populations through organizations like Good Shepherd Services and The Guidance Center of Westchester. However, he decided to pursue his passion and transitioned into becoming a stand-up comedian and a storyteller.

Edgar honed his comedic skills under the tutelage of the renowned Stephen Rosenfield at The American Comedy Institute. He effortlessly weaves humor into his heartwarming tales and considers himself a self-proclaimed comedy nerd. He aspires to further refine his craft and carve out his niche in the intricate realm of stand-up comedy.

Since being discovered at a Moth Story Slam in the Bronx, he has since been featured on The Moth Radio Hour and at various Moth Mainstages across the country. He currently is a manager at The Moth’s Community Engagement Program, which aims to inspire diverse audiences worldwide to share their stories.

Currently, Edgar lives in Westchester County, New York, with his wife, restoring a semi-haunted colonial house from 1924. When not ghostbusting, he enjoys making silly videos with his children and creative writing. His hobbies include jogging absurdly slow and editing boring family vacation videos no one ever watches.
